      I look at how much energy birds use to fly at different speeds, and how much energy they put into their muscles in order to move their wings.

      This can be very difficult to do in the wild, which is why we fly train birds in a wind tunnel, so we can use special equipment to measure their breathing and make sure they’re always flying at a constant speed.

      I usually work with parrots because they are small enough to fly in our wind tunnel and quite easy to train… well, most of the time!
