They have all sorts of chemicals in their bodies, just like we have in our bodies! These chemicals are essential for keeping their bodies functioning, which includes helping the brain work, transporting oxygen around the body, digesting their food and lots of other important jobs!

One cool feature that some birds have (such as homing pigeons) that we don’t, is a store of iron in their beaks that they can use like a compass to find their way around! It doesn’t matter if they can’t see which way they are facing, they’ll always be able to tell which way is North!
